This episode is a transcript of my lecture in Bełchatów in March 2026, titled "New Research in ADHD." In it, I examine areas related to ADHD that are rarely discussed in the mainstream—from teeth grinding to the impact of ADHD medications on the functioning of the entire family. In this episode, I discuss the following topics: 🦷 Do ADHD medications cause bruxism (teeth grinding)? We review a study of children and adolescents that found that the severity of ADHD and gender (more common in boys) influence the severity of bruxism, not the type of medication (methylphenidate or atomoxetine). Managing this problem requires collaboration between a psychiatrist, psychologist, and dentist. 🛡️ ADHD Medication and Social Services Support. A large Norwegian study showed that implementing pharmacological treatment in children and adolescents "on the margins of treatment" (with milder symptoms) reduces the need for social services intervention by nearly 12 percentage points. ➡️ Medication reduces behavioral symptoms, which significantly improves the functioning of entire families. 🎭 How do executive functions affect our emotions? We examine how working memory and cognitive flexibility help with emotional self-regulation. Research shows that these abilities are strongly interconnected, but in children diagnosed with ADHD, this relationship is significantly weaker. 🤰 Women with ADHD and Perinatal Depression. Women with ADHD are approximately twice as likely to develop perinatal depression compared to women without this diagnosis, and the problem of diagnosing ADHD in women remains a huge challenge (women are diagnosed much later than men). 👇 Let us know in the comments ➡️ Which of these studies surprised you the most?
