BMW E31, E38 and E39 Expansion Tank Replacement

This video goes through the method of replacing the Expansion Tank on the BMW E31, BMW E38 and BMW E39 - and bleeding the system afterwards. Although the Expansion Tank gets blamed for continually exploding mine has lasted 21 years! The key is to replace the Expansion Tank Cap - the cap has a pressure-relief valve built into it to set the maximum system pressure - if the relief valve fails your Expansion Tank will keep failing. There are two methods shown in this video - the long version that can be used in an emergency and does not require a new hose clamp and only requires the use of two screwdrivers, glue and packing tape. The short version that assumes you have a new hose clamp available. The method of bleeding is also shown in the video - use the correct method and it will bleed first time every time.
