ASI Air Pro - Flat Frames - Auto v Manual

Hi, I’m Ian and I live in Surrey in the UK. In this video I show how to take flat frames using the ZWO ASIAir Pro. Flat frames are used to remove vignetting and uneven field illumination created by dust or smudges in your optical set up from your Light frame images. Until recently when using the ASIAir Pro this was a very manual process. However, ZWO have added an Auto function that calculates the required shutter speed to take the Flat frames. In this video I show how to use this function, as well as the traditional manual method and show the impact that this has on the image as you process the frames. I use Deep Sky Stacker to show how to stack these images and then Pixinsight to process then. It is interesting that the Auto method produces flat frames at a much higher histogram level than the traditional manual method level I’ve been using before and this impacts on the final image.
