Supergirl FAILED the DCU

🎬 In this FilmSpeak video essay, we discuss how Supergirl FAILED the DCU and whether or not the DCU is over before it began. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE: https://youtube.com/filmspeak?sub_con... Supergirl was supposed to build on the momentum of Superman and prove that James Gunn’s new DCU was heading in the right direction. Instead, the film feels like the franchise’s first major misfire—a generic, formulaic superhero movie that wastes Milly Alcock’s excellent performance and raises serious concerns about the future of the DC Universe. In this video, I break down why Supergirl fails to live up to the promise of Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow, from its forgettable villain and underwhelming action to its inconsistent pacing, muddled perspective and James Gunn-lite direction. I also discuss what the movie gets right, including Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El, her relationship with Ruthye, the contrast between Supergirl and Superman, and David Corenswet’s return as the Man of Steel. Most importantly, what could Supergirl’s critical and box-office struggles mean for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU? With superhero fatigue growing and audiences demanding more than another safe, paint-by-numbers comic book movie, DC cannot afford to lose the goodwill created by Superman. Supergirl may not destroy the DCU, but it could become a major setback unless future projects like Lanterns, Clayface and Man of Tomorrow offer something more distinctive. Is Supergirl simply an early stumble for the new DC Universe—or a warning sign of much bigger problems ahead? #supergirl #dcu #videoessay #dc #jamesgunn #superman #jamesgunndc #explained #endingexplained #analysis #movie #podcast Edited by SeekUnique 👾Join our Discord👾   / discord   Join this channel to get access to perks:    / @filmspeak   ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🎞 Chapters 🎞 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 🎞 About Supergirl 🎞 Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, it is the second film in the DC Universe (DCU).
