Story of the Painful End of Samuel Doe of Liberia

This video explains the story of Samuel K. Doe, from birth through his military career to the 1980 coup and climax in his vi0lent execution by rebel forces in 1990. Prince Johnson's rebel forces had captured Doe in ECOMOG headquarters in Monrovia. On Saturday, April 12, 1980, Samuel Kanyon Doe led an attack by a group of Krahn soldiers on the Liberian executive mansion, killing President William R. Tolbert in a military coup d’état. Like other indigenous Liberians, Doe resented the power and privilege granted the Americo-Liberians, the descendants of freed American slaves who founded the colony of Liberia in 1822. But, after taking over power, Doe went on to established a reputation for cruelty and repression. And would become the first world leader to be tortured and brutally murdered by rebels while being recorded on camera.
