AND THE CROWD WENT WILD! VOL 3: THE FRIENDS
VOLUME 1: THE FATHER AND THE CROWD WENT WILD! For nearly four decades, Father, Son and Friends has entertained audiences across the United States and beyond with their unique blend of Celtic, Americana, and folk music. Their songs are meaningful, rooted in heritage, and inspired by the stories, traditions, and experiences that connect us to our past. Whether performing beloved classics or original compositions, they create an experience that leaves audiences inspired and connected to their roots. For almost 40 years, they’ve done more than entertain—they’ve helped people remember where they came from. Hello everyone, this is Colonel Carson with Family Tree Nuts. I’ve been a lifelong fan of Father, Son and Friends. Their music has always been my favorite, and this documentary was truly a family project. The Family Tree Nuts team included myself, my son Brayden Carson, and my brother Chris Carson—a fitting team for a story about Father, Son and Friends. Over the course of a year and a half, we followed Father, Son and Friends, capturing their performances and conducting interviews with past and present members to preserve their remarkable story. Originally planned as a single documentary, we soon realized that nearly four decades of history could not be told in one film. As more stories emerged, we chose to create a series of volumes, each named after a part of the band’s title: Father, Son and Friends. Volume 1: The Father focuses on Joey Hall, the founder and driving force behind Father, Son and Friends. In this personal interview, Joey shares his family history, genealogy, and the life experiences that shaped both the man and the music. Much like the Life Interviews we conduct at Family Tree Nuts, Joey reflects on his childhood, family traditions, and the early days of the band. He discusses his decades of eighteenth-century reenacting, the influence of heritage on the music, and the spiritual connection found within traditional songs. Filled with stories, wisdom, and heartfelt reflections, Volume 1: The Father offers a unique look at the roots of the band through the eyes of the man who started it all. Volume 2: The Son focuses on Shawn Hall, whose role in Father, Son and Friends extends far beyond performing. As the band’s manager, producer, and chief organizer, Shawn handles everything from scheduling performances and managing logistics to producing albums and overseeing the band’s online presence. In this volume, Shawn takes viewers behind the scenes to share the challenges, successes, and evolution of the band over nearly four decades. He reflects on the group’s early years, the importance of Celtic and Americana music, and how these traditions connect us to our Scottish and Irish heritage. Along the way, he shares hilarious stories, heartfelt memories, and valuable insights into the friendships and dedication that have kept the band thriving for generations. Volume 3: The Friends features interviews with six of the band’s current members—each a talented and accomplished musician who plays an important role in the sound and success of Father, Son and Friends. Through personal stories and candid conversations, they share their experiences with the band, their passion for Celtic and Americana music, and their commitment to preserving the traditions and heritage reflected in the songs they perform. They also discuss the deeper spiritual connection found in the music and the lasting impact it has on both the musicians and their audiences. Together, their stories provide a unique behind-the-scenes look at the friendships, traditions, and shared purpose that continue to make Father, Son and Friends a beloved musical institution. Volume 4: The Uncut Jam Session takes viewers inside an authentic Father, Son and Friends practice session at the “Hall Hilton,” the home of Shawn Hall. Originally filmed for documentary footage, the session was so entertaining and memorable that we decided to share it in its entirety. Presented completely uncut and unedited, you’ll experience the music, laughter, stories, and banter exactly as they happened. This intimate gathering offers a rare glimpse into the friendship and camaraderie that have been at the heart of the band for decades. Clips from this session can also be seen throughout Volume 3: The Friends. To keep the experience engaging, we’ve woven in regular breaks featuring the band’s music, humorous banter, and memorable moments. About every five minutes, you’ll be treated to live performances and behind-the-scenes clips that bring the story to life and showcase what makes Father, Son and Friends so special. Now, are you ready? Let’s dive into the remarkable story of one of America’s most beloved Celtic-Americana bands—Father, Son and Friends.
