Wingstar: A Bold Leap into Animating Within Unreal Engine | Unreal Fest Bali 2025

Project Wingstar is an original creation by Tinkle Comics, brought to life as an animated feature by Zebu Animation Studios. It introduces India’s first female superhero, set against the vibrant backdrop of Mizoram. The story follows a teenage girl whose world turns upside down after the sudden abduction of her father. As she sets out to uncover the truth and find him, she stumbles upon a powerful suit he left behind—catapulting her into an extraordinary journey of self-discovery, crime-fighting, and uncovering mysteries that will change her life forever. This session recorded at Unreal Fest Bali dives into how Zebu embraced a fully real-time pipeline using UE 5.5, handling everything from previs to final pixels within the engine—including animation, environment creation, lighting, and rendering using the Unreal Path Tracer. With a unique blend of motion capture and hand animation, the studio shaped a high-quality, stylized look while maintaining efficiency and scalability. Astha Mathur of Zebu Animation Studios shares insights into the custom tools they developed—ranging from an end-to-end asset creation and publishing workflow, to an in-house shot build system, and a fully integrated previs tool that works with Sequencer and connects directly to the studio’s production database.
