Northern Moreton Bay – Curtin Artificial Reef
s04e61 Curtin Artificial Reef, one of Moreton Bays weekend car parks. I can tell you about the reef, how and when it was established and how long it took. I can tell you how to find the fish hanging around the area. What I can’t tell you how to catch the fish because I have only recently started fishing the artificial reefs and I haven’t figured them out yet. Fishing then as I would the shallow reefs or how I would offshore only brings moderate results, I am still learning. This episode has been held up for a while awaiting approvals to use some copyrighted pictures from members of the Underwater Research Group of Queensland. Scott Grattan of the URGQ has been a great help in providing photos and contacting other members to get approval to use their photos. There are sunken buoys, pontoons, pipes, car bodies, and tires as well. I think each of the 32 “items” that are said to be on the bottom constitutes one “drop”, so dropping a batch of pipes would count as one item. Curtin is an interesting spot and given the number of apparently good fish I have lost there in the few trips I have made to it there must be some good fishing to be had if you can crack the code. One thing that is apparent is that the fish there are gourmet fish, turning away from service station bait in favour of live bait, fresh bait, and good quality frozen bait from the likes of Mr Bait at Hemmant. Come to think of it, most fish are gourmet fish. 00:00 Introduction 00:55 Establishment of the reef 01:58 Large scrolling sketch map 02:44 Oblique coloured sonar scan 03:58 Large scrolling colour scan 05:00 The many that got away 06:33 Considerations for anchoring 07:02 Some sounder shots 11:57 Trying to map the bottom 12:45 Where is it 14:08 Cleaning up the reef 15:39 What the fish see 19:22 Epilogue ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Follow weFish-AU on: ► FishTrax: https://fishtrax.we-fish.com.au ► Facebook: https://fb.me/wefishAU ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
