Crankshaft Tolerances and Alignment Axial tolerances must exist between the connecting rod and the crankshaft faces to allow free movement of the connecting rod and the flow of oil for lubrication, according to parameters established by the manufacturer. Alignment consists of ensuring that the crankshaft faces are perfectly aligned between their two axes, thus preventing misalignments that could produce vibrations and other serious consequences.
