The Woman Who Invented Expressionism (And Was Erased)
Russsian painter, Marianne von Werefkin helped build the world that nearly erased her. She gave up ten years of her own painting to support Alexej von Jawlensky and the circle around him. When she returned to art, her work was bolder, stranger and more emotionally charged than many of the men history remembered first. This video looks at Werefkin’s early brilliance, her relationship with Jawlensky, the Pink Salon, her role in the Munich avant-garde and Blue Rider world, and the years after she had to rebuild her life and work on her own terms. She was not a footnote to Expressionism. She was one of the forces that helped make it possible. 00:00 Introduction 00:35 The Men Around Her 00:52 Early Life 01:25 Meeting Jawlensky 02:18 The Pink Salon 03:16 Return to Painting & Blue Rider 05:55 Life Event 06:43 Final Years & Gallery 07:19 Legacy YOU MAY ALSO LIKE Fernand Khnoppf : HE PAINTED SILENCE LIKE A THREAT • The Painter Obsessed With One Face | His S...
