“I want to see a sign that you will perform, Master.” The scribes and Pharisees had already seen numerous signs, yet they demanded another proof. What they lacked was not a sign, but an attitude of opening their hearts to faith. We, too, sometimes attach conditions to God, saying, “I will believe if this problem is resolved,” or “I will acknowledge you, Lord, if you answer my prayer.” However, the greatest sign given by Jesus is not the result we desire, but Jesus Christ, who died and rose again for us. Today’s Gospel asks us: Am I waiting for another sign?
