The level of importance that Chinese leaders have given to relations with Bangladesh during this visit is unprecedented. China now sees its relations with Bangladesh as `A community with shared future in new era’, meaning that these two countries will build their future together. In South Asia, China has given this status only to its relations with Pakistan. China has pledged to provide full support to Bangladesh in maintaining its "independence, sovereignty, and geographical integrity." It has proposed that Bangladesh join the China-Myanmar trade corridor by road. China has agreed to consider Bangladesh's proposal to be a partner in the Teesta River water crisis resolution project. According to news published in the press, China is being given the responsibility of developing Mongla Port. At the same time, two Chinese special economic zones will be built near Mongla and Chittagong ports. There is no dispute that Chinese technology and Chinese investment are essential for Bangladesh's economy. But India views Bangladesh's closeness to China through the lens of its security, especially the security of its northeastern region. For this reason, India has always expressed doubts about Chinese investment in strategic infrastructure like ports and energy.
