Good Habits as Easy as Bad 2026.02.08

Rev. Jon Turner will speaking our Boy Scout Sunday hybrid service. We often focus on stopping our bad habits and behaviors. It is frustrating that they are so easy to develop yet so difficult to break. In doing so, however, we overlook something genuinely positive: forming good habits is actually just as easy as forming bad ones. The same mechanism is at work. Any behavior we repeat becomes easier over time, whether it is helpful or harmful. Instead of confronting our bad habits head-on with sheer willpower, we can take a different approach, one that is far more constructive. We can begin cultivating new behaviors and allow them to become effortless habits of their own, only this time they are beneficial. It is the same process, but with a different outcome. As good habits take root and require less effort, the old, unhelpful ones naturally lose their grip.
