Regeneration: Using Bioengineering to Protect and Restore the Terai Floodplain of Nepal

The safety and livelihoods of the people of the Terai are in jeopardy. The Terai is Nepal's grain basket–a region that depends primarily on agriculture and provides much of the crops needed by the rest of the country. In recent years, unprecedented flooding stemming in part from climate change has caused erosion, displaced entire villages, drowned seasons of crops, and cost lives. Simple but unconventional bioengineering may hold the answer. CSIS presents the final chapter of our three-part documentary series on climate challenges around the world.
