10. The Great Awakening Extends its Reach

As George Whitefield departed from the American colonies, the question of the direction of the movement traced to his ministry loomed. Some thought all would come to nothing, as various parties split into competing factions. A voice of deep and brilliant reason entered the picture, however, and put the Awakening on a new footing that guaranteed it would remain an important part of colonial history for years to come.
