2023 Real Estate Investor [& Lender] Outlook // Earlier this month, CBRE released the results of their 2023 US Investor and Lender Intentions Surveys, which polled roughly 180 investment firms (including more than 50% of respondents managing over $5 billion of commercial real estate assets), and life insurance companies, banks, and debt funds each doing over $1B of origination volume annually. For similar reasons to why I like to dig into the annual ULI/PwC Emerging Trends in Real Estate report each year, these kinds of surveys allow you to get an inside look into the thought processes of some of the biggest players and capital allocators throughout the industry, who also often have the most access to information that drives their decisions. But even though these reports can be really insightful, these are also not all that easy to interpret if you haven’t been in the industry for a while.
