Femur segmentation using masked region growing in 3D Slicer
This video shows how to separate femur from hip bone using new masking feature of "Grow from seeds" effect using 3D Slicer (www.slicer.org - free, open-source software). "Grow from seeds" effect can now restrict region growing according to masking settings. Image intensity range or any existing segment can be used as mask. This can be used for segmenting bones that are not clearly separated from each other (as shown in this video) or splitting existing segments into smaller parts. The video also shows the new "Show 3D" feature, which shows preview of region growing results in 3D while editing seeds. It allows quality check and refinement of seeds.
