What Is a Third Culture Kid? It's More Complicated Than You Think

This video introduces the following concepts: Traditional Third Culture Kid: a person who spends a significant part of his or her first eighteen years of life accompanying parent(s) into a country or countries that are different from at least one parent’s passport country(ies) due to a parent’s choice of work or advanced training. Cross-Cultural Kid: a person who is living, or has lived in, or meaningfully interacted with two or more cultural environments for a significant period of time during the first eighteen years of life. In this video, I break down what it really means to be a third culture kid (TCK) vs. a cross-cultural kid (CCK), and why the classic definition of Third Culture Kid is outdated.
