This Time I turned to the British Empire at the very peak of its power, the high-Victorian Pax Britannica, around Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee of 1897. It's a period piece sung in the imperial voice of that age: Victoria as Empress of India, the Royal Navy reigning over every ocean (the 1897 Spithead Fleet Review was the largest gathering of warships the world had yet seen), and an empire on which the sun famously never set.
