Polestar Banned in the U.S.? Here's What Happens in 2027

Big news for electric vehicle fans. Starting with the 2027 model year, Polestar will no longer be allowed to sell new vehicles in the United States unless federal regulations change. The reason? New U.S. connected-vehicle rules ban cars equipped with certain Chinese- or Russian-linked technology, including systems used for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular connectivity, and other connected features over national security concerns. Although Polestar is a Swedish brand, its majority owner is China's Geely Holding, putting the automaker under these new restrictions. Current models like the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 will continue to be sold and supported in the U.S., but no new 2027-model-year vehicles can be introduced under the current rules. The decision is another major challenge for Polestar, especially as Europe now accounts for most of its global sales. The company is shifting its focus toward Europe and plans to build its upcoming Polestar 7 SUV there. Do you think this decision is about national security or politics?
