2026 PROTON X70 iGT Review – Brilliant, or Broken? | #Review

The X70 is a monumental vehicle for PROTON, as it not only marked the first new launch following its tie-up with Geely, but also the marque's first proper shot at breaking into a new segment (and bodystyle) dominated by foreign brands. The X70 was a true show-of-force by a Geely-backed PROTON, offering things like Nappa leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, intelligent connected features and advanced driver assistance systems for the first time in a PROTON-badged model. But where brands seek to cement the position of their cars in their lineup (and in the broader market landscape), PROTON appears to be doing the opposite. Where they've taken one step forward by updating the X70 with a remarkable new powertrain, they appear to have taken several steps back by 'rationalising' features and materials where possible in order to continue to undercut competitors, as if lacking confidence in their 'flagship' SUV (because the X90 is a lost cause).
