Drama as City Lawyer Nalukoola Takes NUP Flag for Kawempe North By election

At last city Lawyer Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola is named as the flagbearer for the opposition National Unity Platform party ahead of its defence of the Kawempe North MP seat in the by-election due March 13 This endorsement comes in after Nalukoola beat stiff competition in a crowded party race that included nine other aspirants, including Muhammad Lussa Luwemba, a former aide and confidante of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya who had to change his name, religion and even invoke divine help for the ticket. However, this was not considered by the party and the flag was thrown to Nalukoola. Muhammad Lussa Luwemba has excused himself from the function raising concerns of standing as an independent in the coming Kawempe North By-election. Mr. Ssegirinya, who died on January 9, held the seat for the biggest opposition party by Parliament representation after winning the 2021 race.
