La Rinascita della Quisisana

After more than twenty years of silence, decay, and abandonment, the former Quisisana clinic is preparing to return to being the beating heart of Montecatini Alto. The announcement marks a historic turning point for the town's urban regeneration and for local healthcare. The redevelopment of this building, a near-iconic landmark for the city, is the result of a collaborative effort between the Tuscany Region, the Società della Salute (Health Company), the ASL Toscana Centro (Local Health Authority) in Tuscany, the private group Alf Investment, and the Municipality of Montecatini Terme. The redevelopment plan will transform the facility into a cutting-edge social and healthcare center, featuring a "functional mix." The project envisions a total of 100 beds. Alf Investment's decision to invest in the Montecatini Alto complex stems from an observation: Montecatini Terme currently lacks a nursing home, despite the city's population. The project will create approximately 100 new jobs in the Valdinievole, representing one of the most significant boosts to local employment in recent years. In addition to the economic benefits, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Tuscany Region, Bernard Dika, highlighted the value of strengthening healthcare services in an area with a certified shortage of beds. Thanks to the accreditation model, the facility will operate in close collaboration with the public system. The timeline has already been finalized and sees cooperation between agencies as the driving force behind the project: Expected investment: Between 9.5 and 10 million euros Authorization phase: Approximately 5-6 months (including service conferences) Estimated duration of work: 18 months from the start of construction and no later than 2028 Implementing entity: Alf Investment The redevelopment of the former Quisisana Clinic is not just a financial or architectural operation, but a model of how synergy between the public and private sectors can resolve decades-old critical issues. By transforming a symbol of abandonment into a centre of excellence for health and social care, Montecatini Terme strengthens its central role in the territory.
