Abstract: This essayistic and theoretical work aims to understand the traumatic psychological experience within the framework of Carl Rogers. It argues that, although the phenomenon of trauma was not directly addressed by Rogers' clinical work, this does not imply that his approach does not offer a basis for the theoretical development of the subject. Initially, a general notion of psychological trauma derived from the perspective of biomedical psychopathology is presented. Then, this perspective is articulated with some post-Rogerian studies of a humanistic-experiential nature. Finally, the phenomena involved in the traumatic process, described in the two previous sections, are reinterpreted within an explanatory model based on Rogers' personality theory. In conclusion, it is expected that this explanatory model will serve as a basis for empirical and clinical research seeking to understand and intervene in trauma from a person-centered perspective.
