Gothic is Still One of the Best RPGs Ever Made (Here's Why)

Gothic 1 is getting a remake — but does the original still hold up in 2026? I played the classic 2001 RPG, a massive Unreal Engine mod that modernises the whole experience, and the upcoming Gothic 1 remake to find out exactly what makes this world so special, and what the remake absolutely cannot get wrong. From the brutal progression system that punishes every wrong move, to the organic faction system of the Old Camp, New Camp, and Swamp Camp — Gothic built one of the harshest and most immersive RPG worlds ever made. The Unreal Engine mod fixes the clunky controls and cleans up the UI while keeping the soul intact. The remake promises expanded storylines, modernised combat, and Kai Rosenkranz returning to rework the iconic soundtrack. But there's one thing that, if changed, would fundamentally damage the Gothic experience. And I'm watching it very closely. 🕹️ Chapters: 00:00 – Does Gothic Still Hold Up? 00:29 – Story & The Mining Colony 02:06 – RPG Progression (The Most Important Part) 04:16 – Controls: Original vs Mod vs Remake 07:21 – Graphics & World Readability 10:31 – Music & Atmosphere 12:07 – Final Verdict 🔔 Subscribe for honest gaming analysis, blind playthroughs, and hidden mechanics:    / @polishdanreviews   #GothicRemake #Gothic #Gothic1Remake #GothicRemakeGameplay #RPG
