Contrary to popular belief... When Jesus died on the cross, He wasn't paying off God to fulfill His Father's ravenous wrath towards man. God was not disgusted by man, and believe it or not, God could in fact look upon sin! How do we know this? Because Jesus became sin. Jesus is just as much God as the Father is God. The trinity is in perfect union and that did not change during the time at which Jesus was crucified. One of the greatest lies of religion is that Jesus had to pay off God to save man. Nothing could be further from the truth. God is love, and his love and his wrath are not two schizophrenic sides of a coin. Sin causes man to run away from God. Sin causes God to run towards man! Jesus puts the nail in the coffin of religion as he hung on a cross and recites Psalm 22. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" This would have been an anthem among the Jewish culture of the time. Go ahead and read the rest of the chapter and come to the same conclusion as the early Church did. Jesus is who he says he is. Religion is dead. And in the end Love wins.
