How Many Train Stations are there Actually in Tokyo?

While I was searching through the hundreds of train stations in Tokyo to find the worst, I discovered that no one really knows how many train stations there are in this city. Some people say there's close to 900. Other says there's less than 700. Which one is correct? I decided to take a crack at it and try to determine the total number of Train Stations in Tokyo.
