Lebron entered the draft ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He hit .277/.386/.534 with 16 home runs in 61 games for the Crimson Tide in 2026. The 21-year-old is one of the most athletic players in this year's draft class and brings an intriguing combination of power, speed and defensive ability to the Reds organization. MLB Pipeline gave Lebron a 70-grade run tool, along with 60 grades for his power, arm and fielding. Lebron spent three seasons at Alabama and developed into one of the top players in the SEC. He finished his college career with a .313 batting average, 45 home runs, 158 RBI and 69 stolen bases while earning multiple All-American and All-SEC honors. Defensively, Lebron is viewed as a legitimate shortstop with the athleticism and arm strength to remain at the position professionally. Baseball America described him as a potential plus defender with an easy plus arm and the ability to make highlight-reel plays. The biggest question surrounding Lebron is his offensive approach. Scouts have noted his tendency to chase pitches outside the strike zone, particularly breaking balls, and his ability to consistently recognize and handle secondary pitches will likely be a major focus of his development in the minor leagues. MLB Pipeline, however, noted that Lebron has made progress with his approach and two-strike plan. The upside is significant. Lebron has added strength and bat speed during his college career, giving him well-above-average raw power from the right side of the plate. He has also shown the ability to handle velocity, and his speed gives him another potential impact tool both on the bases and defensively. If the Reds can help Lebron improve his pitch recognition and overall contact ability, there is legitimate All-Star upside. MLB Pipeline specifically noted that developing into even an average hitter could give Lebron an All-Star ceiling because of the strength of his other tools. Lebron also becomes the latest highly athletic position player added to a Reds farm system that already features several intriguing young players up the middle. Cincinnati entered the draft picking at its lowest first-round position since 2022, but still landed a player ranked nine spots higher than their selection by MLB Pipeline. The Reds are betting on the tools, athleticism and upside of Justin Lebron at No. 18 overall.
