'THE POSTPONEMENTS ARE TRAUMATISING' STATE WITNESS CRIES DURING CAT MATLALA TRIAL

A deeply emotional moment unfolded in court as state witness Birthwell Mzamo Cele broke down while giving evidence about the 2022 attempted murder of businessman Joe Sibanyoni. Fighting back tears, Cele told the court that the repeated postponements in the case have caused him ongoing trauma. Cele testified that at about 23:35, he and a colleague noticed three vehicles moving around the area, including a red Ferrari, a Golf 7 and a BMW. He said the BMW slowed down before three men armed with AK47 rifles got out and opened fire on the Ferrari. According to Cele, he and his colleague returned fire because they feared for their lives. He said the gunmen then fled towards the golf estate. The testimony forms part of the State's case against alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala, who faces allegations linked to several attempted murder cases.
