England Road Tours - A515 Lichfield to Buxton

Today's road tour takes us across parts of Stafforshire and Derbyshire, into the southern Pennines before terminating at Buxton. The southern extent begins just outside of Lichfield, and the road passes through Ashbourne on its way to Buxton. A mostly rural route, the A515 is a regionally important and an alternate north to south route for areas across Stafforshire and Derbyshire. The general route of the A515 has changed little since the original numbering scheme was unveiled in 1922. The southern extent is in exactly the same place albeit now a roundabout, and the route to the A50 almost identical to the original. Indeed, part of the A50 has always been borrowed by the A515, originally through Sudbury but now bypassed by a high quality dual carriageway. A small bypass for the village of Clifton was built in 1974, and the route through Ashbourne manifested in a two-way configuration along Compton Street and Dig Street until 1960, when Church Street and Station Road were also used as the former became a one-way system. In 2021, the route shifted to its current configuration utilising St John Street and Park Road for southbound traffic. Filmed August 2022.
