The United States (US) launched another airstrike on Iran on Monday (July 13, 2026) evening local time. As reported by Tribunnews, the attack hit various locations in southern Iran and small islands near the Strait of Hormuz. Footage released by Viory showed flames on Kish Island. Iranian media reported no casualties as a result of the US attack. However, explosions continued to be heard in several locations, such as Qeshm Island and the city of Bandar Abbas, early Tuesday (July 14, 2026). US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the operation targeted Iran's coastal defense systems, missile and drone sites, and maritime capabilities. The aim was to weaken Iran's ability to attack merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. "US forces successfully struck military targets throughout Iran, including Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas, to further weaken Iran's ability to attack merchant shipping," CENTCOM wrote on platform X. Separately, Iran claimed to have attacked US naval vessels and bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation. CENTCOM has not confirmed whether the reported attack hit its intended target. This tension arises as the US and Iran both claim to be the guardians of the Strait of Hormuz.
