This condition triggers bone loss, making bones susceptible to fractures. However, this bone loss can occur slowly over a long period of time. A person with osteoporosis is more susceptible to injuries, such as spinal fractures, hip fractures, wrist fractures, arm fractures, and pelvic fractures. In some cases of severe osteoporosis, repeated coughing or sneezing can also cause rib or spinal fractures. Sufferers usually experience pain in the fractured bone.
