However, what is truly remarkable is that, despite the passage of thousands of years, life in this land still depends on the same thing: water. Even today, in this part of Cappadocia—especially in the district of Derinkuyu—the most decisive factor for permanent settlement is water. This is because there are no prominent rivers on the surface of the region; streams are seasonal, and there are no lakes.
