TRIBUNMAROS.COM, MAROS – Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport has officially become the first airport in Indonesia to feature Saudi Arabian airline Flyadeal. Flyadeal's inaugural flight from Sultan Hasanuddin Airport began early Thursday (November 13, 2025). The Makassar-Jeddah flight used a Boeing 777-300. The aircraft took off at around 4:00 a.m. WITA, carrying 250 passengers to King Abdulaziz Airport, Jeddah. This route will become a regular flight with a weekly schedule. Sultan Hasanuddin Airport General Manager, Minggus Gandeguai, called Flyadeal's arrival a significant milestone. "This is the first Saudi Arabian airline to fly directly from Makassar to Jeddah," he said. According to Minggus, this new route is very helpful for people wishing to perform the Umrah pilgrimage. Furthermore, it also opens up opportunities for religious tourism. "People can depart directly without transiting in another city. It's more efficient and comfortable," he said. With Flyadeal's addition, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport now has six international airlines. These are AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Scoot Air, and Flyadeal. The airport, located in Maros Regency, has also prepared complete facilities. There are six parking stands for wide-body aircraft and ARFF category 9 facilities. "Technically, we are ready. All facilities meet the standards for wide-body aircraft," Minggus added. The arrival of the Flyadeal aircraft on Wednesday (November 12, 2025) at 10:58 WITA (Central Indonesian Time) was greeted with a water salute. Airport management also presented special souvenirs to the flight crew. Maros Regent Chaidir Syam welcomed Flyadeal's inaugural flight. He called it a source of pride for the people of Maros. "Sultan Hasanuddin Airport is located in our region. Now, it's the first in Indonesia to have Flyadeal. This is a great honor," he said. According to Chaidir, Flyadeal's presence will have a positive impact on the regional economy, especially in the service, hotel, and transportation sectors. "The more international flights, the greater the economic turnover for the local community," he said. Chaidir hopes this collaboration will open new routes from Makassar to other countries. He believes the market potential in eastern Indonesia is enormous. "We hope Flyadeal will open the door. In the future, there could be other routes from Maros to the Middle East," he said.
