This time, I took a walk through the Rekimachi shopping street in Esashi Town, Hokkaido, Japan. Esashi Town has approximately 6,800 people located 4 hours and 30 minutes by car southwest of Sapporo and 1 hour and 30 minutes west of Hakodate. It is the oldest town in Hokkaido to open a port, and since the 17th century, it has prospered due to its cypress wood and herring. This shopping street is located on Inishie-kaido street. Like Matsumae Town, this street was developed as part of a ``town development project that preserves history.'' Historically and culturally valuable buildings have been preserved, and new buildings have been designed accordingly. This shopping street recreates the streetscape of the 18th century. In August, a big festival called Ubagami Daijingu Festival is held in Esashi, and 13 floats are paraded through this street. At that time, the streets were filled with people, but the town was quiet since this video was shot the week before the festival. Like Matsumae, it is a shopping street that is like a theme park, so it is a town that I would like many people to visit even on non-event days.
