Nicolás Maduro broke his silence from the Brooklyn federal prison, where he remains in pretrial detention while his legal proceedings continue. Through his official accounts, presumably via his lawyer, he published a message for Father's Day, in which he speaks of "love, respect, and gratitude" in five dimensions of fatherhood. In the statement, signed alongside Cilia Flores, Maduro mentions "Heavenly Father," "Father of the Nation Simón Bolívar," and "Father Teacher Hugo Chávez." "On this Father's Day, Cilia and I send you a hug full of love, respect, and gratitude," the text reads. The message has generated controversy due to the context in which it was released.
