(Introduction) The Hayang Agricultural Landscape Complex is established in the area around Daebu Submersible Bridge in Buho-ri, Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan-si. Daebu Submersible Bridge is a submersible bridge 200.7m long and 8.6m wide connecting Daejo-ri and Buho-ri in Hayang-eup. It is connected to the Daegu Line railway crossing and National Highway No. 4, resulting in thousands of vehicles passing through daily, including route buses. In spring, canola flower fields are created, and in autumn, cosmos flower fields are planted to provide citizens with scenic views and a resting space. (Construction History) The area around Daebu Submersible Bridge was a neglected site overgrown with weeds and littered with waste rocks. However, flower planting began in 2003 to provide a resting space for citizens and to create a positive image for visitors to Gyeongsan. In February 2003, rapeseed seeds were sown, and in April, a large-scale flower planting event was held as part of the ‘Gardening the Hopeful Gyeongsan Flower Path’ to welcome participants of the Daegu Summer Universiade. A flower garden was created by planting 10,000 spring flowers, including pansies and daisies, along the perimeter of the existing 5,000-pyeong rapeseed field established by Hayang-eup, and by also sowing cosmos seeds. (Changes) In 2005, the festival failed to be held due to poor rapeseed growth caused by unsuitable soil, and in 2006, most of the rapeseed plants froze to death due to the winter cold. Additionally, there were many complaints from local residents that it was inappropriate to apply fertilizers and manure to the rapeseed fields because the area was a water source protection zone. Consequently, Gyeongsan City stated that there were no major issues in establishing the rapeseed fields by applying appropriate amounts of fertilizer and well-rotted compost as permitted by eco-friendly agriculture, and continued to cultivate the flower gardens. In April 2017, a canola flower festival was held, attracting the participation of many citizens, and in the autumn of 2019, the Hayang Cosmos Music Festival was hosted, demonstrating its potential as a major autumn tourist destination in Gyeongsan. (Current Status) The Hayang Agricultural Landscape Complex not only provides a resting space for citizens by blooming canola flowers in the spring and cosmos flowers in the autumn, but also hosts festivals during the flowering seasons to allow many people to participate in various activities. It is evolving into an educational space where students and children can experience natural ecology, and a cultural space that conveys the fragrance of flowers to citizens. However, the Hayang Agricultural Landscape Complex faces traffic congestion; the Daebu Submersible Bridge becomes submerged during heavy rains, and traffic is heavy due to visitors to the Hayang Canola Flower Complex and the large number of vehicles crossing the bridge during the flowering season. Additionally, traffic is sometimes restricted during the rainy season due to debris floating down from upstream, highlighting the need for fundamental safety measures for the Hayang Agricultural Landscape Complex.
