Biography of Henri Gayot: Born in 1904, a drawing teacher trained at the Rouen School of Fine Arts, and a reserve officer, Henri Gayot was taken prisoner in 1940 and interned in an Oflag (prisoner-of-war camp). After feigning asthma attacks, he was medically repatriated in 1942. He then joined the Resistance, first in the Centurie network, then in Honneur et Patrie. He was appointed military leader for the Charente-Maritime region. Arrested on September 19, 1943, by the Gestapo in La Rochelle, he was imprisoned in Lafond and then transferred to Fort du Hâ on December 8, where he was tried. He was then transferred to Fresnes prison, from where he was deported to Natzweiler on April 6, 1944. He was given the number 11784. In September, he was transferred to Dachau and then Allach (a subcamp of Dachau), where he was liberated on April 30, 1945.
