Petersburg Railfanning 1-15-18 (feat. CEFX AC4400CW)

Hooray! My first railfanning trip of 2018, better yet it was on Martin Luther King Day! Freezing temperatures and chilly air didn't stop me from having a good time! Enjoy the video! Train #1: After I arrived, the yard job switches tracks and reverses toward the hamburger track. As it was backing up, Matt (Southeast Trains) arrived. At one point when the train stopped, I saw the engines slightly bouncing. Just when you thought the ability of trains to jump was limited to Chuggington, apparently it's a real life factor. 1. GP38-2 #2631 2. GP40-3 #6542 Train #2: Amtrak P089, which somehow managed to be on time today, makes its way south. 1. P42 #25 Train #3: Off screen, CSX Q301 pulled up behind us and stopped. In this clip, Amtrak P080 speeds north. 1. P42DC #76 Train #4: After getting the signal, Q301 heads into the yard. Notice that the trailing engine was smoking. 1. ET44AH #3265 2. C40-8W #7650 Train #5: The same CSX Geeps from earlier come back this way and go into the siding. Train #6: CSX Q409, which also had to stop outside the yard for a while, gets moving again. Interestingly, the lead GEVO has the same number as a preserved DRGW SD40T-2. The second engine was also having a radiator leak, apparently. I didn't see it with my eyes, but Matt told me. I wonder why this train and Q301 had to stop before proceeding. It could have been that JWS (whom from what I heard is a not-so-good dispatcher from around the area) was on duty, or the person he trained. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Lilie or Lacus Clyne was messing up the signals. 1. CSX ES40DC #5371 2. CSX ES44AH #890 Train #7: NS 234 passes through Petersburg, VA. 1. C44-9W #9174 2. C44-9W #9349 3. ES44DC #7684 Train #8: Afterwards, CSX Q141 without the juice reefers flies south down the A-Line. At this point, Matt briefly left to pick us up some Pizza from the Pizza Hut on South Crater Road. 1. ES44AH #3191 2. ES44AH #3022 Train #9: Another southbound intermodal, perhaps Q031, passes Collier Yard. After it passes, the same CSX Geeps from earlier pull off the siding and reverse into the yard. This was my last train of the day before nightfall. 1. CSX ET44AH #3337 2. CSX ES40DC #5237 Train #10: NS V62 pulls off the Petersburg Belt Line and takes the hill into the yard. I must say that I really like that K3H horn (if that's what it is, I can't identify every horn off the bat to be honest)! At first I thought the leader was an ex-Conrail C40-8W, but I'm not going to spoil what it actually is just yet. Train #11: Amtrak P091 speeds by Collier on its overnight journey. 1. P42 #121 Train #12: Following behind the Silver Star is P053 with a P42DC and a P40DC for power. 1. P42DC #144 2. P40DC #831 Train #13: Northbound CSX Q300 comes through Petersburg, but eventually stops next to me. The trailing loco, #168, is now repainted into the YN3B scheme. I caught it trailing back in 2014 when it was in YN2. 1. ES44AH #940 2. AC4400CW #168 Train #14: The delayed Amtrak P090 comes north with a double set of engines. From what I heard, the Palmetto was involved in grade crossing accident the other day which delayed it as well as other trains on the main. I learned from 4rr.com that the lead locomotive here is rescuing the trailing engine, which is being taken for repairs. 1. P42 #15 2. P40 #817 Train #15: Hands down my catch of today! After finishing its yard work and heading back down the hill, V62 has reentered the NS main and is ready to continue east. What surprised me most is that the lead engine is a CEFX AC4400CW! This might be my first time to catch a lease engine leading something, so that was cool! If it hadn't been for my new flashlight I got for Christmas, I might not have been able to tell. 1.
