Pianist Seong-Jin Cho, who has gained recognition on the world stage after becoming the first Korean to win the Chopin Competition in 2015, was awarded the Grand Prize at the Daewon Music Awards on the 16th. He received this prestigious award, which has been won by Korea's leading musicians such as violinist Kyung-Wha Chung, vocalist Kwang-Chul Yon, and pianist and conductor Dae-Jin Kim, at the young age of twenty-four. Since winning the Chopin Competition, Seong has expanded his recognition and solidified his position by performing with the Berlin Philharmonic, giving a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, and being invited to perform at leading music festivals around the world. In his acceptance speech, Seong stated, "I will always strive and work harder to become a better musician." Seong, who was also the winner of the 2011 Daewon Music Awards for Best New Artist, is scheduled to perform with the Budapest Festival Orchestra in Korea this coming June. In September, he plans to hold a duo concert with vocalist Matthias Goerne and present Korea's first-ever piano quintet performance in Tongyeong. KBS met pianist Seong-Jin Cho, the 'young virtuoso' of April 2019, who is enjoying the spring of his life.
