La incantevole Bergamo Alta 😍

UPPER BERGAMO 🥰 It's the oldest part of the city, as well as the most interesting from a tourist perspective. Before climbing to the upper part of the city, we start our day with an excellent lunch. We were invited to Miscusi Family on Via Sant'Orsola, 21 (link in description). Sure, having a plate of pasta for lunch isn't exactly a novelty here in Italy, but the chance to watch pasta being made and create your own dish using 100% organic Italian flours is a real treat for us. 🥰 The atmosphere is cheerful, lively but not rowdy. The place is cool and spacious, with good music and truly excellent service. I'll definitely be back 👍 Thanks @Miscusi Family for the invitation 🤗 After lunch, we begin our tour. One negative note concerns the funicular: access is still masked, and even my dog had to wear a muzzle, which they happen to be selling in the bar next to the ticket office. No comment 🤬 Piazza Vecchia is the symbol of Bergamo Alta as well as the town's main square. All the most interesting buildings are concentrated here: the Palazzo della Ragione, the Civic Tower, also known as the "Campanone," the Library Building, and in the center of the square is the Piazza Vecchia Fountain, unfortunately under restoration. Crossing the square and entering the portico beneath the Palazzo della Ragione, you emerge into Piazza Duomo, which houses four true beauties: the Bergamo Cathedral, the Colleoni Chapel, the Baptistery, and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. What fascinated me most is the interior of the basilica, truly marvelous. The original layout is Romanesque, but the splendor of gold and stucco reliefs from later periods reigns supreme. Since the late 1500s, the entire church has been transformed and sumptuously enriched in the Baroque style. Hanging on the walls are 25 enormous, marvelous tapestries, woven on a handloom using wool, colored silk, gold, and silver threads, the work of the famous manufactures from Florence and distant Flanders. Among those buried in this church, you'll also find the great Bergamo composer Gaetano Donizetti 🎼 Under the loggia of the regional palace, engraved in the pavement, we find the "gnomon," a sundial built over 200 years ago. Even today, a ray of sunlight hitting a sundial accurately marks the local midday and the date. 🔝 Even getting up the civic tower was difficult, forced to take the elevator. Dogs are prohibited, so I went up alone 🤷‍♂️ In addition to the Miscusi Family, we were invited by the La Marianna pastry shop and ice cream parlor, located in Bergamo Alta at Largo Colle Aperto, 4 (link in description). Did you know that stracciatella was born right here? Exactly in 1961, thanks to the brilliant intuition of Enrico Panattoni. One day, in his restaurant, after various experiments, creates a unique gelato, a pure white cream with irregular pieces of dark chocolate inside. The melted chocolate that solidifies and shatters is reminiscent of the egg curdling in the boiling broth of Roman-style stracciatella. This is the true story of the Stracciatella we tasted, along with other flavors here at the gelato shop 🍧 We had never been to Bergamo Alta, but it was a pleasant surprise. So much art and history, it's easy to get to and equally worth a visit. It's one of the many Italian cities worth a visit 👍💯 MISCUSI FAMILY 👉 https://www.miscusi.com LA MARIANNA 👉 https://www.lamariannaristorante.it ‼️ For all other social media, you can find me on my landing page 👇 https://linktr.ee/viacoltubo_
