Has Online Surveillance Killed Fanfiction?

#booktok #fanfiction #danandphil #commentary #wattpad Hope you all enjoy this little side quest from my baking book club videos! It’s 2026, and people are still writing fanfiction. A lot of it, actually. More than I realized. I tried counting how many stories were uploaded just today to the popular fanfiction site Archive of Our Own. I lost track at over 250, and there were still like 8 more results pages left to click through. During my time scrolling and counting, one particular piece of writing stopped me in my tracks. A Dan and Phil fanfiction. For a moment, I was transported back to 2015, scrolling through Tumblr late at night reblogging fan edits and searching for something thrilling to read. Yes, it’s 2026, and people are still writing fanfiction about Dan and Phil. Even after they came out and confirmed their relationship was real this entire time. As someone who used to be part of their community like a decade ago, the endurance of that fandom astounds me. There really is no fandom quite like the Phandom. So I read that fanfiction I stumbled upon; then, I read some more current ones. And after a bit of digging, I noticed that the writing’s not quite how I remember it being… This got me wondering: How have Dan and Phil fanfictions changed, why have they changed, and what can this tell us about the current state of fanfiction writing? *** My ASMR Channel: ‪@madiskitchen‬ Find all recipes featured in these videos on my Patreon: Madi's Kitchen Background Music Credit: Piano Concerto, Op. 3 Moritz Moszkowski Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0
