The Pacific Island Milk Run. Pt.2 POHNPEI (MICRONESIA). ft. NAN MADOL
4 Part Mini Series DESTINATION UNKNOWN: The Pacific Island Milk Run. In December, 2024 I travelled through 7 incredible islands in the Pacific ocean over 14 days. Part.2 features the island of Pohnpei, the capital of Micronesia, one of the wettest places on the planet! Here I was lucky enough to visit the heritage site of Nan Madol. The site covers over 200 acres and was created entirely out of layered basalt columns, the concept of which seems impossible given Pohnpei's geolocation, population, and the lack of heavy machinery which would've been needed back to then in order to construct it. Its a place with no official history, and was featured briefly in Netflixs' 'Ancient Apocalypse' featuring Graham Hancock who proposes his pseudoarchaeological theory that there was advanced civilisations and technologies in ancient times pre-dating the times of hunter gathers as we know it. The site is so huge that it really makes you wonder and speculate just how and why this incredible structure was created!
