He falls hopelessly in love with her, even though she doesn't reciprocate his feelings and only has her eyes on the piano teacher, Toni. Through the Archduke, however, she hopes to gain the long-awaited patronage that Toni needs to secure a position at the Vienna State Opera. A private dinner at the Hotel Sacher, where Lixie and Peter Ferdinand spend time together, leads to embarrassing complications and a full-blown scandal, as the Archduke's love affair with a commoner becomes clear to Viennese society. When the affairs of several respected dignitaries also come to light, the scandal escalates into a highly political affair of state. That's when Lixie's resolute friend Mizzi intervenes.
