🇵🇪¿Sabías que PERÚ casi invade CHILE en 1975? 🇨🇱 El plan secreto de Velasco vs Pinochet | JL Pastor
DID PERU WANT TO INVADE CHILE? In this episode of Cronológica, we explore one of the lesser-known—but most explosive—episodes in recent South American history: Peru's alleged invasion of Chile in 1975, under the command of General Juan Velasco Alvarado, in what some call the failed attempt at a Second War of the Pacific. In the midst of the Cold War, Velasco's revolutionary government planned an ambitious military operation to recover the territories lost in 1879: Tacna, Arica, and even Antofagasta. This plan, dubbed by some as the "Black Plan," sought a lightning victory over an isolated Chile led by Augusto Pinochet, who had just come to power after the coup against Salvador Allende. In this video, we tell you, using previously unpublished documentation, military testimonies, and cross-referenced Peruvian, Chilean, and American sources, how this potential Peruvian invasion of Chile was prepared, why it wasn't carried out, and how Bolivia played an ambivalent role in this conflict that almost reignited the War of the Pacific. What will you see in this episode? The historical context behind the War of the Pacific (1879–1883) and the promise to recover Tacna and Arica before the centennial. The rise of Juan Velasco Alvarado, his nationalist doctrine, his alliances with Cuba and the USSR, and his geopolitical vision of a sovereign South America. The ideological and military confrontation between Velasco and Pinochet, two dictators with opposing visions, at the height of the Cold War. The development of the Black Plan, its three phases: invading Arica, taking Iquique, and occupying Antofagasta to return it to Bolivia. Bolivia's crucial role, from the secret talks with Velasco to the famous Charaña Embrace between Banzer and Pinochet in 1975. Chile's surprising defensive strategies: fake landing strips, psychological warfare, mine deployment, and air power simulation. The foiled D-Day: August 6, 1975, the date Peru was supposed to attack… but the order never arrived. The fall of Velasco and the Tacnazo of August 29, which definitively put an end to the invasion plan. The diplomatic consequences: the Bolivia-Chile rupture, indirect US intervention, and a war that never happened… but was minutes away from starting. History is not only written by wars that break out, but also by wars that never happened. In 1975, Peru and Chile were closer than ever to a new armed conflict. The trenches were ready, the tanks were firing... but history took a different turn.
