Today without much preamble we go straight to the cockpit for a spectacular in-flight demonstration. We are at Pavullo nel Frignano Airport in the middle of the hills of Modena at Flight & Fun 2024, one of the main fairs / gatherings in the general and ultralight aviation sector here in Italy organized by the Aeroclub Pavullo and the Piloti di Classe association. We are on board the Escape produced by the Venetian company Lamanna and Commander Mauro Antogiovanni (for friends and for all Maurino) is waiting for the ok from the tower to carry out one of his spectacular displays. His aviation curriculum precedes him and doesn't need much introduction... 24,000 hours of rotary wing flight, instructor, examiner and so on and so forth... in short, someone who has rotor turns in his brain. It's the Saturday of the event and in the parking lot there are 150 planes that arrived in the morning from all over Italy. But please… while you enjoy the show………. The ESCAPE is a two-seater helicopter with innovative performance, entirely designed and characterized by extreme lightness, high power, long autonomy, low consumption and reduced operating costs. The pressurized frame is made of titanium while the cabin cell is entirely made of carbon fibre, the engine installed is the ROTAX 915 iS, the rotor blades are made of composite material (infinite life), the rotor hinges are made of elastomer, the low mechanical resistance and cooling system fans. Thanks to the ROTAX 915 iS turbo injection, with a power of 141 HP, it is able to offer the user an extremely high power/weight ratio even at the most extreme altitudes. And you will see it well in Maurino's show... considering that Pavullo has an elevation of 2300 feet and that at the time of the show the temperature exceeded 30 degrees! The choice of piston engines, as an alternative to turbine propulsion, has made it possible to obtain reduced consumption and unparalleled autonomy. The aeronautical construction standard of the components allows for a particularly simple maintenance program and consequently a reduction in operating costs. Two seats side by side, very comfortable even for taller people, characterize the passenger compartment. All controls are easily accessible, particular attention has been paid to the ergonomics of the flight controls and two large compartments have been created under the seats. The areas dedicated to instruments and controls are well divided and allow direct and easy access. And there's still enough room to allow customization of the dashboard. The accurate design allows easy inspection of the various components, all easily accessible. Finally, just two numbers on Escape: 130 Nodes of VNE; 100 Knots Cruising Speed 290 kg empty 600 kg maximum take-off weight 22 Liters / Hour of average consumption 4 hours of autonomy.
