Konstantinos S. Vorissis - Phalanx; Sonata for Snare Drum
Recap of my Diploma Recital held on June 17th 2026 in Innsbruck, Austria (Part 2). As the Second piece I played "Phalanx" by Greek composer K. S. Vorissis. The Snare Drum Sonata consists of 3 different parts. The first is focused on complex poly-rhythmics, starting with a 4 over 3 and swapping in the next 5 bars from regular sixteenth notes over doubled semiquaver triplets and quintuplets. The second part is focused more around sound. Sound made with brushes, timpani head and rim clicks with a short improvised section played with hands. And the last part is a demanding rudimental part with some awsome rythms. All in all it was loads of fun checking out all the different demanding rhythms, sounds and rudiments and getting to play them in this piece.
