The little mighty Rega oil can was made to last!
In this video I clean and restore an old Rega No. 030 1/2 pint oil can be made in Australia. I have been searching for Rega oil cans for a while and I found this one for only $10 on a newly listed market. Sure it would not last long there, not just because of the low cost but also because of its excellent overall condition. This oil can was probably unused for a long time as the oil inside was black, like a used old motor oil. It was made of a thicker gauge metal and does not dent easily. It has a nice weight to it which I like and feels really solid. The interior pump mechanism was simple and built with all-brass internal fittings. No rubber or leather seals to deteriorate after being in contact with oil. This is why you see these cans so old and still working perfectly. The nozzle tip, joints and caps are also made of brass. It is very precise, even when pumping fine machine oil, which is the oil I will be using with this can. Riga is a well known Australian company established in 1926. Here it is an interesting catalog from 1938 showing its extensive line of products: https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-17407088/v... This particular can model was probably made between the 1930's and 1960s. Do you know more information about this particular model or any other Rega oil can? Please add it to the comments. It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for watching!
