Preparing your mix sets (how to prepare a set)

Do you prepare your sets? How do you prepare your sets? There are different levels of preparation and in this video i'll explain the options and share my methods. When it comes to club gigs, I do not prepare my mixes. The only preparation I do is to make sure that i bring the right type of music for each specific event. This is half the work. If you know your music and you know what you brought, you are in a perfect position to do a ' freestyle' set, What i mean by freestyle is that you can 'go with the flow' and react on the crowd response. You are free to try different things and you can switch to something else as soon as you feel that you are losing the crowd. This is not possible if you are playing a prepared track list/mix. There are multiple scenario's where a prepared mix is important. These type of gigs can make you nervous and this could have a negative effect on your performance. To make sure you can focus on delivering a good performance, it's better to prepare a playlist and practice the mix transitions. Another good option is to just prepare the start of your set (the first couple of tracks) and start with a special 'gimmick' like an old tv tune or a crazy movie sample and do something special with a loop or a scratch and make a transition to a big song to catch the crowds attention and set the vibe instantly. You can have a couple of these prepared points inside your set and keep the rest of the set freestyle.
