Strength Through Joy (1938)
Hamburg, Germany. Various shots of a 'Strength Through Joy' parade moving through the streets of Hamburg. Huge crowds of people sway to traditional German music; decorated floats go by; people in traditional German costume dance along the streets; Nazi swastika flags are clearly seen hanging from the buildings in the street. A contingent of young women from England walk along in the parade with a Union Jack flag; presumably from an equivalent 'Strength Through Joy' society. Dr Robert Ley of the 'Strength Through Joy' campaign applauds from the crowd. People in the crowd make the Nazi salute to them. More decorated floats, including one carrying enormous sheaves of wheat and a big swastika. Girls walk along in the procession, throwing balls from one hand to the other.
